While internet TV isn't a new thing, smart TVs are. The Samsung UN40EH6000SF allows you to enjoy TV the way you always have, but now it's even more convenient. With the Samsung UN40EH6000SF, you have the ability to access hundreds of internet apps on your TV. It also comes with an internet-connected TV remote that will work for all of your Samsung Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) products.
The internet experience on the Samsung 6000 series is quite different from on your computer, in that it doesn't have the ability to surf the web the same way you do in a browser window. Rather, all the internet functionality of this Samsung smart TV is found in its apps. This is a double-edged sword. The Samsung 6000 series comes with a large app store. Chances are you'll be able to find many apps that fit your interests. However, the lack of browser-based capabilities leaves the internet experience feeling incomplete.
This Samsung smart TV doesn't contain multitasking capabilities, and that's a letdown. You can only perform one task at a time on the Samsung 6000 TV. Furthermore, it doesn't offer an option to have two screens running at the same time. For instance, you can watch TV, but in order to check your Facebook page, you have to navigate away from the TV program.
All the smart TVs in the Samsung 6000 series come with Wi-Fi connectivity. This means you do not have to be physically connected to the network to use this Samsung smart TV's online functionality. This greatly enhances where you can place your television and cuts down on the clutter of cables and wires connected to the back of the set.
Since the internet is an additional feature on the TV, you can still watch TV even if you don't have internet access. Of course, without the internet you won't be able to access the apps. Since your internet-connected TV is a TV, you won't have to wait for it to boot up as you would with a computer when you turn it on. The Samsung 6000 simply switches on.
Samsung recommends five apps, which it pre-installs on your Samsung smart TV. These preinstalled apps include Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, Facebook and Blockbuster. You can also purchase additional compatible apps from Samsung's app store.
Display & Audio
This 40-inch LED Samsung smart TV has a 1920x1080p resolution and a video format of 24 frames per second. It comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio (the standard for widescreen viewing) and a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Its response time is between three and four milliseconds, which is much faster than your eye can perceive. It has a refresh speed of 240 Hz.
The Samsung 6000 series is DLNA compliant. This means it works on a local area network (LAN) to communicate with all your other electronic devices connected to your network. This allows you to search multiple electronics for the content you want.
The Samsung 6000 TV uses on average 100 watts of power, which is average compared to the other internet-connected TVs we reviewed. It also comes with an Eco Sensor on the Samsung smart TV that adjusts the brightness of your TV according to the amount of light in the room. If there is a lot of light in the room, the screen increases its brightness. If the room is dark, the screen reduces. You can disable this feature if you prefer. This smart LCD TV is Energy Star approved.
You don't have to worry about keeping track of a bunch of remotes when you buy Samsung products. Samsung's Anynet+ remote works with any Samsung product that is DLNA network compatible. This can include your Blu-ray Disc player, home theater, AV receiver and Samsung 6000-series smart TV.
The Samsung 6000 has integrated search capabilities. What this means is that you can search through your TV for anything in your LAN or anything connected to your Samsung 6000 series TV. Your search word will bring up results from all TV programs, internet apps and files in your network. You can search for a Netflix movie, a song on your computer, a TV show on your TV, your favorite rerun on Hulu, photos on your connected USB drive or a YouTube music video – all from your TV's search-all feature. It will also bring up search results on your internet-connected TV for Facebook and Twitter if you have those apps.
Help & Support
Samsung offers a support telephone number and email address. The manufacturer's website has a live chat feature. It can take some time to communicate back and forth, especially if you have a less-common question that needs research. However, the company has great customer service.
